We created the "Kid's Korner" as a spot for our younger patients to have some fun and allow their parents a little "down time" during their visit to the dentist. At Sheron Dental we endeavor to make your child's visit to the dentist a pleasant and positive experience. When we first meet your child and do the initial examination, we invite you to join him or her to help make them feel more relaxed. During follow-up appointments you may want to enjoy the relaxation room, but are welcome to accompany your child as well.
In our office, you can rest assured that your child will benefit from the latest advancements in children's dentistry, conveyed with caring, thoughtfulness, and compassion. We look forward to their first dental visit when they are one year old and watching them grow year after year. It is our happy task to encourage proper dental care habits, and we enjoy teaching children how to keep their teeth healthy for a lifetime.
At Sheron Dental, we share your ambitions for maintaining your child's oral health. Helping them learn proper care from the beginning creates a lifetime foundation of strong dental habits. There are many reasons your child's teeth are extremely susceptible to cavities from a very young age. Children don't have the necessary coordination to brush properly on their own. Because of this, it is important for parents to assist in their child's daily hygiene. This promotes both good cleaning and the development of appropriate dental habits. Poor cleaning means teeth are more likely to develop decay when subjected to food and juice acids. Little kids often "graze" - eating frequently throughout the day. This results in an extended exposure to food acids, which may result in more cavities. The good news is that recognizing poor dietary and hygiene habits, along with applying a fluoride varnish to the mineralizing teeth, can drastically reduce the odds of your child developing a cavity.
Trying to brush the back teeth in the deepest part of our mouths is a challenge even when we're adults. No matter how carefully we proceed, we may miss some areas thanks to the deep grooves in our molars. This is especially true for children whose hand-to-eye coordination isn't fully developed. The collected bacteria and acid triggers plaque formation, which will lead to decay. And once a tooth has decay, it is damaged permanently and will need a filling or a crown.
The application of dental sealants helps counteract a child's inability to brush properly, protecting their teeth. The procedure is harmless, painless, and takes just a few minutes to complete. After the tooth (or teeth) is cleaned and sterilized, a thin, white or clear plastic coating is painted on the tooth. Then a curing light is directed over the sealant to bond it into place. This requires no shots, drills, or the removal of any tooth structure. Applying dental sealants is one of the best preventive actions both children and adolescents can have done to preserve their natural teeth!
